Thank you for the reply. The noise is so faint, I only hear it when sitting inside my garage. Usually after I've come home for the day.
Pull in to garage. No movement. .. and only then can you hear a slight noise, which goes away when you move the parking gear in to park and remove strain from the transmission.

seems to me you can hear the sound of automatic transmission oil pump, under pressure in drive.
sounds are not easy to find like that.  

would take having a shop find that.
