Code P0118

118 , means  he ECT sensor is bad. ( stuck crazy too cold frigid)
1: disconnected connector to it (its behind top rear of engine head on water outlet port) 1.8L DOHC
2: pins on it are  rusty.
3: wrong ECT installed
4: wires to it cut, damaged
5: or is just BAD ECT.


118 means it reads 5vdc,  that means reads and open circuit,  on hot engine it read 203F.  (200 to 300 ohms hot it reads, cold it read.  70F 2350 ohms. room temp.

118 means the temperature reading computes to -55F degrees or more, cold,  means the sensor is reading dead open,

Thanks. It is still OEM ECT. Never touched it or changed it. A new replacement would be OK??

if the pins are damaged , it will read wrong, best is to look first.  the coolant loop must be breached to change it, drain out 1/2 gallon of coolant.
any sensor shown on rockauto works 1.8L your year card. sport.  (rock shows many brands, what is sold in your world, IDK)
most have dual sensor there, one for dash gauge ,one for ECU,  of both fail , that implies the ground to the sensor is cut. ( 3wire sensor)? is dual.
as pure usual stores show many sensors, and wrong, for J18,  there is only one sensor that works here,  
suzuki p/n 13650-50G01.
has 3 terminals not 1, not 2,  but 3, and 3 only for J18 engine 1996
if you had looked a yours first behind the head you see 3 pins in the sensor and not damage. first.

again IM NOT TELLING YOU are anyone ever to buy from ROCK only that the have lots of choices. there, and sadly  have. 2 wire sensors for G15 mixed in with J18 engines,
the single pin sensor is also for G16 engines, only, so.... this is common in most stores, here.
they dont know that VIN engine code 2 means J18, it fools them.

The only parts that is correct is 50G01.
