My car is 96'Suzuki Sidekick Sport, 1.8l engine with more than 10k.
that rumor you are repeating of from the old days, 1960s ? and was a rumor than back to the 1930s' when they used alcohol then.
your engine is must run at 180f, (like it did new)
the antifreeze word (simple) is just lie here is what it really is.
the engine coolant, does 2 things, and more.
it is not optional at all, why ever consider it is, is the true question?
- it prevents freezing, (check) at 50% mix, the freeze point is near -30degress F, note the minus sign, that is near 60degress bellow freezing temp of pure water +32F. huge protection.
- it increases greatly the cooling liquid to conduct (transfer) heat from the water jacket and to the Radiator , THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL on any modern car, this.
- so is ANTI-Boil over protection of 50% mixed coolant too. 260F protection.
- and last? is it prevents rust and fast corrosion inside the engine. never good that, even eats up pump blades, and more. as the water turns to acid bam, damage.
if boil over the coolant in the engine you have a huge risk of warping the top cylinder head, or far worse. ever see the cost of that? $5 coolant over $1000+++ damage?
why risk that/ EVER?
it's called engine coolant and not just water, sorry.
Thanks for the input. Just curious people talk about the tab!
