Crank Angle Position sensor?
#1
Hi!
I have a european fivedoor vitara 1.6l 16v motor g16b from1993.
My wife drove this to work without any kind of problem in the morning, and after her shift the car will not start.
The distributor won't spark and I recived code 42.
Since the car dosn't have the vacuum hose distributor I tried to find the crank angle sensor but i just can't find it, annywhere??
Not on anny side of the motor or infront of oilpan? And since it's a 93 it shouldn't be between the motor and transmission right?

Please help!

so cranks ok
and no spark.
and 42. means CMP dead
if the cam belt snaps as all do after 100km distance, the Cam halts,. the CMP halts and the rotor in the distributor does not spin. and the induction coil goes dead,
if the belt only slips, spark happens at the coil HV lug, but at the distributor the timing is weak an spark if at all , is erratic at spark plugs do to rotor Mal-alignments. (timed wrong here too)
it has no crank sensor at all, sorry. first one is 1996 in USA only then vastly later ins europe. forget crank sensors.

there is no vacuum advance, the ECU does advance all by itself, 100% all done in ECU, even RPM advance is there. (in tables inside ECU)
this car is old,

first is look at rotor , cap off distributor , crank, does it spin, this is first. when all spark dies, and is super simple test.
as is, IG-coil file and FI fuse not blown,

Hi and thank you for quick respons!
Cam belt is a year old and in perfekt shape, the rotor spins, bought a new distributor since I read that the sensor is located inside it, still nothing. Still code 42. No fuses blown.

Haha yes! That's why I bought a new one. I have a new distributor installed just don't have any pictures atm. Could it be annything else? The ECU? Whats up with the 42 code with a new distributor? New cables, new rotor, new cap, new coils, power on all cables, but no ignition even on startgas. What am I missing?

Went through the ecu and it looks like brand new, so nothing there. Voltage is good on cables from ecu to distributor.
