Vacuum advance hose
#1
1989 Sidekick 1.6L auto

I can't figure out where the vacuum hose attaches that goes from the distributor.

The hose is about 8 inches long but there are no attachment points within that distance.

I never took it off, it just slipped off at some point.

Thanks!

my 89 tune up page and my find parts pages cover that. to extreme, as does the white vacuum map in hood shows it.

easy peasy japaneezy

all but hose.
here
http://www.fixkick.com/IGN_timing/89-timing.html

the hose was here, under 89/90, under EFI parts , main page click 89 vac parts, on all G16s.
it goes to the Tee fitting... new car.

it uses special ported vacuum and never hard plenum vacuum or bad happens.

note my nice P and H marks.

Thanks! I found the t-fitting. The next thing is, there is a tube coming out of the top of the valve cover that has no hose connected to it.

Where would that hose go?

Where would that hose go? to the PCV Tee fitting, it goes.

i (valve cover) but is a PCV hose for SURE. and is revised. 89/90s

ok , the 89s, have many revisions in just 1 year, hose wise. to top of TB for PCV. some have a PCV heater (water heat)
evolution fast changes,

If you post a photo of your engine this is easy to determine.

question did you click all 89 links on right table here.
http://www.fixkick.com/find-parts.html

the PCV hose changed, mid year.
some even have PCV heater there.

here is one hose seen to right

photos really help
for sure on 89a or 89b PCV factory revisions.

Here is a somewhat close-up photo of the pipe that is coming out of the valve cover.

The engine is embarrassingly oily, as you can see. The fan has sprayed the leaking oil all over the right side of the engine.

When I replaced the timing belt, water pump and timing cover I also replaced the radiator hoses and heater core hoses and a couple more hoses too.

I'm afraid pressure washing is going to cause more problems (electrical). There are wires on the right side of the engine that are not enclosed in the black harness material. Previous owner must have removed it.

I replaced the valve cover gasket hoping to resolve the oil leak but I think oil might also be coming out of that tube.

I'm trying to make sure that all the hoses and belts I just replaced are not going to get saturated with oil.

P.S. The droplets in the photos are not fresh oil. It rained after when I had the hood up.

Agreed.

Not particularly. The sketch doesn't show the pipe coming out of the valve cover or where the hose would go.

finding 89 photos is not easy.
the above if out of the suzuki parts catalog, and doesnt show all hoses on one page, nor show them connected only in exploded form.

best is the real book
hard to find, but here it is.

im digging deeper
found some books, in attic....

got the whole 89 parts list
that is a 89/90 intake main pipe on top, id need photo with it off, to see
if you have design #1 89 or design #2 89
so posted design 1 above that hose on top goes to the valve cover pipe
now design 2

as you can see they changed part 22 (25 in my first post ,now updated with all numbers)
so part 22 LEFT hose goes to front of main air pipe (nipple on main pipe from called fresh air)
and hose at 22 right, goes to the valve cover, sucking blowby gasses from top of engine.

i think 22 likes to rot out and get lost.
where as the T shaped, fitting made of metal lasts forever.

not seeing TB with that pipe off, one can never guess. what design you had./have.

part 25 is a big clue here,,,

next , the main pipe. 89/90 listed. only one. 91 changed radially.
see that nipple on the main pipe, left in photo that is the other PCV hose.

22 is gone right?
but in one of your photos , i see a hose there,
but with the main pipe installed, it be impossible for anyone to ID it as design A or B.
pull the pipe. and bingo

those 2 hoses on top can only go 2 places
main pipe, and valve cover. there is no where else to go.

has no water hoses for ISC, (its not heated so , no hoses large like this)
nor air hoses for ISC (there cast in the TB)
only water hose for IAC port.
the reset are tiny vacuum hoses or the large brake booster hoses.
leaving just 2 PCV hoses. to deal with'.
that is my full report on hoses.
small /medium.

i have the full illustrated parts list. in hand.
its not that easy to figure out
but on my water pages, i have red lines showing the path off all lines
and vacuum too.
ive never documented PCV , because ,it just 2 hoses on top. my guess, connected any way you want because the Tee fitting is just pipe.
so now we have both drawings here, and we can see they are near the same.

ill annotate it now, like I did others.

now some magic,
merging. photoshop magic,

that leaves only one other hose, PCV-1

all i know on 89s is here
little
http://www.fixkick.com/specs/89-diffs.html

assumes experience with non 89's (lots more about. and running, 91+)
