Starter on 94 sidekick strange cranking sound

id say the commutator is trashed and sure filing it can help for a while
but its trashed.
if the booster cracks its diaphram (and fails a leak down test) the engine goes lean.

block the booster hose, see engine run better?

That is my suspicion that whatever I did to commutator, helped for now. Yes. Just like magic engine smoothed out just like that when I plugged hose. Never suspected the mini misfire would be that. That had me playing with idle settings like crazy!! Booster was repaired 7 years ago (not by me) so if I don't find a repair kit then is a new one. I discovered the problem while car was idling: I applied the brakes, idle went up and smoothed out. I said OMG, this is it!! Also my t-stat was also contributing to temp being above middle mark. It took like forever to open and not quite well, even though I tested it on a pot (lol the same I used for the Kick thermoprobe!!) It opened at 215f or so. So Im thermostat-less for now, but car is just fine and dandy, idling perfect with timing spot on and temp no even close to middle. Will let you know of any new findings.

that booster hose is just one of may hoses, to pinch and block to find vacuum leaks on all cars.

Thermostats fail in many ways, (like starters) the STAT be very very slow to open or open to fast and too far.
in fact, there is netflix video on "how Stats are made" and why they fail and why they all fail so soon.
the wax pellet inside, is short lived. as are some seals inside, what cause the motion of the STAT, all fail soon, not one lasts life of engine.
running with no thermostat is one of the worst things to do with EFI.
the EFI is now locked in warmup mode forever. waste of fuel and a very hot CAT.

the engine actually, cools better with a 195F stat, (seems odd huh?) but do to "Carnot's" laws .seen here.

the radiator has greater cooling effect, with water more hot, than the air side. all auto stores sell this stat,

when replacing the STAT with wrong gasket,(ring) clauses a fridge engine.
