ECM Pictures 1990 Geo Tracker
#1
Good evening

I am hoping someone can help me out. I have an ECM out of a 1990 Geo Tracker, part #33920-60A01

I am looking for some internal pictures of this unit if possible. Mostly I am looking for the yellow capacitors lined up in a row on one side of the board. They are small caps and I need the arrangement of them if possible. I took one of these boards apart quite a while ago because it burned a hole through it and now I need to put it back together. All I need is the capacitor arrangement. Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure what's crazier about the fact that you're making such a specific request.........that I too have a 1990 4x4, that I have photos from when I replaced the ECU's caps or that I was able to find them. Unfortunately I keep getting errors that they're all larger than the size limit allowed by this site. If you still need a photo send me an email [email protected] and I'll get you what I have.

what's crazy about ECU bad?, they do it all the time (vast) the caps dry out car parked out doors hot day in Texas(say). and cab hits 200f. easy.
they have a 20 year life span spec so tells the maker of the caps and even A#1 top maker Nichicon.
the caps that blow first is the top rear left huge CAP, 47uf ,50v
why not tell what you have. there. this is the power in main 12vdc cap, filter.
it can be 40 to 100uf and 50 to 100vdc, rated, if it fits and does not hit the lid as the top of case is put back on.
it is not like tuning a radio with caps these are called brute force DC power filters.
they prevent say the huge power spike seen from the AC compressor clutch 100volt nasty EMF kick back pulse from wrecking the ECU.
too much uF is not a problem here. ESR rated is best.(low esr)
the words on the ECU pages are mine, I made those pages in 2006? long ago. and and too much time on my hands working 4-10s.

if you need specific information, say so
Suzuki made like 50 ECU for these cars one year alone, for 50 countries smog rules and for 5+ engine types. world wide.
my pages are USA only and some CANADA>
some ECU look totally alien to USA ECU, even seen with aluminum cases and lids, unlike our STEEL cases.
i get my caps here.
from MOUSER.com they sell them at wholesale rates, not EBAY at 10x more, scalpers rates.

the caps are RADIAL leads, and ESR rated low , 105C degree rated (hotter is better and 105 is boiling point +5)

lost ones I bought were here.
56uf/63vdc.

just one cap , one example even 73cents cost, not ebay rips

here are some facts on ECU.
all from first to 1996 , G16 mostly.
the ECU inputs do not ever blow out. they are R/C filter protected. so never below up. (short of lightening hits) I used to work in a factory and as a field tech both)

the CAPS fail 10x more than any other parts here, due to they have a 10x less than say a transistor,. (talking only electrolytic here)
The other failures are injector drivers, and last the +5vdc reference supply blows up from users of cars hot wiring sensor on the car and the blow the 5vRef to H3LL.
one ECU the copper trace to the 5vdc zener diode protector vaporized. (and was an easy fix. once seen)
the caps called electrolytic, are all short lived, some brands are even worse for sure 1995 year, that even crack open.
the caps that look good (can shaped) and are polarized, (minus mark on sides) dry out and read uF on a cap meter, and are useless. now.
when the corner cap fails the ECU reboots endlessly. eve so badly the scan tool is dead. (no comms)

to buy them it is best to buy fresh caps not junk off fleabay china cloned crap. CCC,. fresh and buy Nichicon.
buy same or more UF
same or more Volts
and lowest ESR on the table at mouser i just posted.
LOW ESR , cleans the noise up best.
the battery in the car must be kept charged up as below 10vdc the ECU regulator go mad (not bad ,just mad)

the old old 33 year old ECU is here

you can see the minus STRIPE there.
do not put them it backwards or they explode. (leak, rupture)

see those RED X 's
those love to fail for sure 33 years old. for sure.
for sure hot summer cars located. hot hot cabs wreck caps.
the orange cap seen mid board mostly passes all tests.

this slide show , has many ECU shown, even the 60a too.

the acid leaks out of the cap and lands on the PCB and catches fires.
and burns. and destroys the ECU.
here is one just like it same place in my ECU slide show pages. for CAPS wrecked

burn baby burn it did, sorry you suffered this ,truly ! I am.
