1996 Geo Tracker missing after warm up and driving. - Lilredcotracker - 01-08-2016 I have a 1996 Geo tracker. It starts just fine and runs like a champ till I stop and turn it off. Then it starts with no problem, but when I start driving it will start missing. It misses when I up shift and accelerate. It was doing this a month ago and I changed fuel filter, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, and wires. It has for the past month ran better than ever. But 2 days ago I drove a couple miles and stopped at my moms. I was there for less than 30 minutes and when I left it started missing again and has gotten worse. I changed the fuel filter, but it is still missing. Has anyone else had this reoccurring issue? RE: 1996 Geo Tracker missing after warm up and driving. - fixkick - 01-08-2016 sure and in all ways possible. (near, ) get the EGR main closed then when sure 100% its closed, if it takes cleaning, the so be it,its 50k service point. remove the top hose on the throttle body, this it the ported EGR port pull hose , then put golf tee in hose, so it cant suck air. on the TB side, this takes a spark hose or working on other end of metal vac. line. gone now? so does it stall or drop below 800 rpm at anytime, even to 400 rpm ? this is usually the EGR stuck open if it happens at odd stop signs, bingo. RE: 1996 Geo Tracker missing after warm up and driving. - fixkick - 01-08-2016 can be other things, above is common, even with a full tuneup. spark plugs at 0.028 gap? this spark system is not high energy rated. using stock J plug, not surface fire magic plugs you can use the high end J plugs, like platinum tips, etc that are listed in the NGK plug catalog. misfire can be many other things, too rich or FPR sticking close causing gross high fuel pressure and super rich running do the (did) the old and new spark plug tips look black? cheers ! I cleared and checked ERG hoses. Then I removed and cleaned out the ERG valuve. I have started it and driven it twice and so far it has not started missing. Thanks for the expert advcice. RE: 1996 Geo Tracker missing after warm up and driving. - fixkick - 01-09-2016 i hope its just that, this car loves to stick EGRs some with 100k on them are horrid to cure,, I had cars, took right foot on brake Toe,and right heel on gas to keep from stalling over and over. a pain to drive and if car stalls just as light goes green , danger of driver behind you hitting you.... more pain hope you run pain free! |
