Plugs have red oily stain and misfire - zukitrek - 05-17-2015

Like the thread tittle my #2 plug misfires and when removed has red oily stuff.

Pics are the wet one then cleaned and the red stain that came off with carb cleaner and some carbon. All other plugs never released nor red nor carbon when cleaned.

Hope this helps.

Here pics of my gas fresh from gas pump.

Hope this helps.

RE: Plugs have red oily stain and misfire - fixkick - 05-17-2015

lost my post.....
ok, what do i see.....
i see red oil on photo 1 and 2, why is oil red.?
is the car with a mechanical fuel pump , that runs off cam, and loves to leak tons of fuel to the crankcase. turning oil RED? (drain it and look?)
why is fuel red?
red means offroad fuel only, un taxed.
red means aviation fuel, 80/87 all by EPA law.
why is it read, ? try running non red fuel>. ? normal fuel (taxed) is very light amber. but the EPA red dye is organic and tiny and burns clean;.

why do the spark plugs look like off 300 cubic inch turbo engines., with short paths for thermal transfer?
are those the wrong plugs?
that is the oddest plug ive ever seen , aside from high CR racing and turbo. with cold plugs.
cold plugs will fail here, and foul.

very perplexing ALL> i see why its confusing to you, it would anyone.....

bad fuel>?
maybe station owner has problems (who knows, right>?) and put in some ADDtives THAT WRECK THIS FUEL?
TRY BUYING FROM DIFFERENT STATION. IS THE CURE.
AND FIX YOUR FUEL PUMP.? IF THE diaphram leaks , the crankcase will fill with gas.
AND CHECK COLOR OF FUEL IN A COFFEE CAN BEFORE FILL UP. AND IF RED. ASK STATION WHY RED?
OURS IS AMBER.

now that is some funny gas
ours is super light amber.
In the United States of America, the Environmental Protection Agency mandates use of a red dye to identify high-sulfur fuels for off-road use.
but is never strong enough to foul spark plugs and the red tint is clean burning organic dye.
some aviation gas is red. 80/87
why do your spark pugs look kick huge engine, turbo plugs.
i see the insulator is black with carbon , it will misfire. that is for sure. like that.
hot rod turbos run narrow gaps and cold plugs. what is the brand and p/n on plug,?
do not run them in this car. if wrong.
why is the photo showing red oil?????
i can see they are new plugs (less that like 5000 miles , sharp edges are the clue)

my guess is the fuel is leaking into the oil, the oil turns red.
so is this car with a mechincal cam pump , that love to fail and shoot raw fuel to the crankcase. seen many.... i have. like old usa v8s did for 30 years? or more?

OEM plugs or manufacturer recommended ngk bur4eb-11. Maybe you are right and pump is leaking to crankcase in this case? These don't have not even 5 driven miles. My fuel is Shell 87 octane. Question is why #2 cylinder, because of all the other reasons I told you about?

My aux valve guides were mangled when removed and maybe valve seal is not sealing properly in that chamber?

Fuel quality is not the problem if it was all cars would be having problems her. It just helped me see something wrong.
And my guess all fuels here in PR are that color but Ill try others and verify.

Super lost.

RE: Plugs have red oily stain and misfire - fixkick - 05-17-2015

the valve guides is bad, will suck oil like mad,
no mater how many oil seals.
case in point, my stock vw bug has no seals new, and now., at all and don't burn oil, and is a boxer engine... pancake engine.
but why is the oil red.? (2031 miles away forensics?)
my guess now, is it's burning oil bad, on #2 and misfires and the red gas paints everything red.

my vw head guides. were mangled too. and are now, works of ART, on the wall.

many time the guides dont come out.
most times it's from non pro machine shops.
the book tells you to heat the head first. to get them loose then press them out.
and the book also says, if they seem stuck? (force applied is too much?)
it says, to broach them out (drill) until the walls of the guide are thinner, and NOW they will come out. (skills)
all this is skill and craft and the fine art of head rebuilding,,, many don't ever do this, working only newer cars.....

my guy, just rejected my heads and give me free cores to work. (i was very lucky, on rare heads) and will never do it again. as there are no new heads to buy..... (clones)
I spent more cash rebuilding and old block that the cost of new..... (1step at a time and bam they got me..$$$.) But that is how all this goes. no complaints..

RE: Plugs have red oily stain and misfire - zukitrek - 05-17-2015

I fell victim of rookieness for not doing my research properly. But like you say, no complaints. I can still try to get better shape aux guides and replace them or get the non aux valve head. These are threaded to the head with 53ft/lbs and can be removed without taking head off. Copper washers were the ones I could not remove maybe in my second attempt if I use the cvcc head again.
But these plugs were bought new in january and this past week just started misfiring, same plug same cylinder, same gas.

Ill see what i can do.

Thanks!!

yes, when the valve opens, a very hard vacuum impinges in the valve guide, to stem.
going down a hill with foot off the throttle, the vacuum can be 25 inches, easy, (that is why this is worst case for smoke) and will suck oil
from the top of the head, if the guide clearances are wrong, (or cracks, etc)
it can be real bad too.
you might try a hotter plug as a band aid.
it might burn off the oil , better.

that is the problem with cute complexity, CCV, whatever, more parts to break or crack.

what a bummer having red gas. to make things, seem odd.
if it was real gas, it just be , amber oil fouled.
i wished id saved my purple spark plugs for show an tell.....

It is real gas. Ill check locally as to why ours is that color. Maybe color coded for country?

MY GUESS, IS gas for off road, only. that is what the wiki covering gas states. or av-gas. (nah, no way)
its the gas farmers use.
all over the road gasoline state side, is very amber, like amber.

Ok. Ill do my investigation and report back to you. Just last night a guy from a FB Honda group Im in put the 8v head version for sale that has the aux guides/valves. Wish me luck. BTW, did you get to see Peru's gas color?

Happy sunday!!

RE: Plugs have red oily stain and misfire - zukitrek - 05-19-2015

Here it is same brand but different gas. Remembered that I mentioned my red gas was Shell 87. So my guess regular is that red/light pink color because and Premium is what you were expecting. At least in that gas station their two types. Have a look.

In the sun

In the shade

Hope this clears your doubts about gas color here in PR.

Regards!!!
