A/C Coolant Hi-Temp Cutout Switch - Ed-Mc - 05-13-2015 Hi, Fixkick, with the help of your excellent A/C troubleshooting instructions (and a shop manual), I was able to find the problem with the non-running A/C on the '98 Tracker 16V 4-door I bought a couple of months ago. I guess the previous owner had a problem with the electric fan running all the time, and instead of fixing the problem, they just pulled the A/C fuse to keep the fan from running!! I was very happy when I checked the little coolant temperature switch screwed into the side of the thermostat housing, and found that it was open (overheat signal). I was even happier when I grounded the Yellow/Blue wire and the A/C compressor ran like it's supposed to! So, I need to replace that switch. Would you know the mfr's part number or the P/N for an aftermarket replacement? The manual calls it an ECT switch, opens above 235 deg F. Thanks for you help and for this website with all its excellent info. I found your timing/adjustments section very useful, when fixing all the problems the Hammer-Mechanic did to the crankshaft gear and other things!!! Cheers............ed RE: A/C Coolant Hi-Temp Cutout Switch - fixkick - 05-13-2015 great ! work ! i have the suzuki number but the other top makers?- are (guessing) SMP and ac-delco and others, did you look on rockauto. oops its not there... nor at SMP. a/C overtemp, sensor. suz p/n 95573-60a50 sold here (its listed for $17) http://www.suzukicarparts.com/parts/1998/Suzuki/Sidekick/JX/index.cfm?siteid=214820 GM 96059455 <<, part number $44 http://www.gmpartsdepartment.com/parts/1998/Chevrolet/Tracker/Base?siteid=214533&vehicleid=71923§ion=HVAC&group=AIR%20CONDITIONER&subgroup=SWITCHES%20%26%20SENSORS&component=COOLANT%20TEMP%20SWITCH some gm dealers show , discontinued. cheers! RE: A/C Coolant Hi-Temp Cutout Switch - Ed-Mc - 05-14-2015 Thanks for the Suzuki #, it pulled up a lot more results than what I had! A lot cheaper, too. Funny how that works! I did find an FAE 35670 sensor, if you ever need one in Europe, you can get it from Amazon.uk for L 14.27!! None in the U.S. that I could find. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DQGKSTS?tag=duc08-21 I have some parts inquiries in, I'll let you know where I got it & what they charged me for it. Thanks........ed RE: A/C Coolant Hi-Temp Cutout Switch - fixkick - 05-14-2015 yes and parts prices , are unlimited. some shops in Florida. charge 400% mark up over retail. how cool, they have them in Europe.... who is FAE? i guess they don;t market here. this switch is hard to find.... (for sure fast) from suzuki a 10day wait. is common from some deep warehouse.. not on local selves. be sure to ask , shipping delays, huge, is common. RE: A/C Coolant Hi-Temp Cutout Switch - Ed-Mc - 06-03-2015 Just an update, got the switch, you're right, there was a bit of a wait, but not bad. Put it in last week and of course it works perfectly. The A/C in the Tracker is so cold it'll freeze you out after running for a while. It's been about a month since I recharged it, looks like it'll be ok. Now if I could just keep the water out of the engine! Head gasket, here we come (unless one of the core plugs I replaced in the head failed; I can only hope!). Cheers..........ed RE: A/C Coolant Hi-Temp Cutout Switch - fixkick - 06-03-2015 great the you found a working a/c overheat switch , (ready for summer) the head, don't lose the 2 corner head to block, locating pins. hollow tube pins. if lost the cam belt will never run straight. page 8 part id 11, (there are 2 of these) http://www.fixkick.com/engine/96-98%2016v%20engines-USA/combined96-98motor1.pdf |
