Brake Light on Dash Intermittantly - mayberry97 - 03-22-2015
Hi There,
I've got a '98 X-90, but i am pretty sure it's the same as the Sidekick in this way... The brake light on the dash comes on from time to time when going fast around corners or hitting bumps. According to the instruction manual, this is either due to a fault in the brake system or low fluid. Brake fluid is fine. And the brakes look and function really well. I don't see any leaks or signs of issues.
The parking brake doesn't seem to cause the issue. I was thinking that a switch in that mechanism might be loose causing it to trigger the light as if i applied the parking brake.
Can you think of any other areas that might cause this light to trigger? Or could there be some other issues with the braking system that isn't obvious at first glance? Orrrr....is this just a known glitch with these cars and safe to ignore?

mostly same, driveline, and wiring, ,harnesses are different shapes. but wired same.
brake lamp is fuild level , too, and hand brake and pressure diff. valve/switch failure.
its not a known. its a failure.
the hard part is finding which of the "OR" wired "OR" inputs are failing. wire "or" 'd to ground, any switch that grounds this node, lamp glows.
the only way to do that, is to pull the connector,, and drive. (short = fail) so pulled conn, make it not possible to fail.
the pulled connector, that cures it, is it.
id start at the fluid, wire, and short it.
you dont have DRL lights on that car do you, if yes, it can short and make brake lamp glow.
NO ABS?
the correct schematic all depend on those 2 options, DRL + ABS, mix and match.

the abs revision has 4 points that can fail. to lamp.
abs
hand brake
level
and diff. sw.
and DRL input shorts.

Thanks...i think the solution was simpler than even that...as usual, due to my ignorance. Even though the brake fluid wasn't low, i maxed it out and the light seems to have gone away. That indicator is just over sensitive...warning me when it's not low. Seems as long as i keep it maxed, it will be fine.

good, it may be sticking inside too. the part that switches might hang up, or have dirt there.
