Spark plug wrench suggestion? - cosmic_splatter - 08-03-2014 I've never worked on these small engines with the plugs sunk down into the valve cover. Do you have any suggestions on wrenches that get the job done easily? I see this one on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/AMPRO-T33338-8-Inch-Extendable-Socket/dp/B00A32UH5S/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1407001583&sr=8-6&keywords=spark+plug+socket It looks like one plug is underneath the air intake. I'm assuming you have to remove it to get to the plug? John RE: Spark plug wrench suggestion? - fixkick - 08-03-2014 any spark socket get it loose. but use a rubber hose to pull it out or the snake grabber. yes on intake but its a snap all that. the ngk is BKR6ES 16mm (5/8") any spark socket that size fits. im sure you have extensions and a universal joint is of no use. with 4 valves this spot is only place it can go. dead center. http://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-1785-8-Inch-Drive-Socket/dp/B000NY6PCA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1407003652&sr=8-6&keywords=5%2F8++spark+plug+socket. $2.49 http://www.harborfreight.com/58-in-high-visibility-38-in-drive-sparkplug-socket-67792.html and a free ruler all in one day...... lol the rubber inside all spark sockets are short lived. so i use a 1/4 id hose extract them and to start the treads, never use tools to start spark plugs. its soft alum. head. and do not over torque them. i have a mag extractor, and a grabber, all 3 work. seen on my tuneup page this http://www.fixkick.com/IGN_timing/25v6-2004/Cops-out%20%281%29w.jpg sold at harbor fright too. and many others. torque spec is 21 foot lbs, tiny. http://www.fixkick.com/specs/torque1.html http://www.harborfreight.com/24-inch-2-in-1-pickup-tool-94162.html $3 can also get things dropped, no arms can fit..... its and very useful tool RE: Spark plug wrench suggestion? - cosmic_splatter - 08-03-2014 fixkick, I see that there are two plugs shown in the fsm. BPR5ES and the BKR version you mention. Do you have a preference of one or the other. The BKR says its an ISO tip or something like that. John RE: Spark plug wrench suggestion? - fixkick - 08-03-2014 i use what NGK tells me, they have newer numbers now , from orig. factory FSM stated number. here is what i use, http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/part_finder/car_truck_suv/default.asp there are like 3 choices. each more expensive and longer lasting, from stock steel to platimum and ? more. RE: Spark plug wrench/NGK plug types? - cosmic_splatter - 08-03-2014 They are saying to use a plug gap of .032. I know that's wrong. I believe it's .028. But, they no longer show the BPR plug. Just the BKR. |
