fixkick,

If you have what's labeled in the ecu pdf chart as the new EGR2 ecu.. part num 33920-70EA. Do you need to worry about Rubicon caps?

just by year 1995 and older. never seen any 96_+ ever fail, (for caps )

What does egr2 exactly mean? Mine is a 1995, so I thought they didn't change the emissions until 1996. Here is a pic of my hood sticker. Did they modify the computer a year earlier in anticipation of the changes? Not sure what makes an ECR EGR2 versus normal.

ok, in 1996 (or 1995.5 on some cars)
they when to OBD2, and the EGR check, VSV was added, keep in mind, some cars will be early. a tad.
dont worry yours will not have the check VSV at rear of intake.
in 1996, they dropped the horrible 4 EGR injectors cast in to the intake. horrid to clean
and now use s MONO port EGR in the TB. vastly easier to clean.
and added a EGR map sensor, top rear, and drops the silly (but easy to fool) EGR thermo probe on the EGR main.
and all new ECU. and 2 oxy sensors, and lots more.

what you got, varies by what serial number car,(vin)and what factory made it.
or of GM made (cami) or Geo made (CAMI)
very very complex cut in dates........

My EGR page is complex only because, it IS.
they changed it 89 to 94, Cal and FEd, then 1995.5 then 1996
and then in 1999, (electric one motor EGR)

Thanks fixkick!

My EGR is failing with CEL and I did the stall test. Engine idle doesn't do anything when pulling in the diaphragm. Looks like I will need to remove the valve from the car and clean it.

The mfg date on my 95 is 1/95. So, I probably don't have a lot of the changes they did in midyear. Will look at it this afternoon.

do you have the SST sidewider EGR tube. on right side, of intake? that is the newest and best, intake manifold.

there are 2 stall tests. finger and vacuum.
did both fail? if finger stalls and vacuum fails the diaphram is bad. cracked and will fail a vacuum leak down test,classical.
if both fail and the you can feel the EGR main move, then the path it blocked.
id need to know if you have side winder tube.
quad jet, or mono jet EGR.

that is mono jet, a blessing if it is there.

i call the part 50 a side winder. like the snake, and like a snake it bites you, it clogs but is easy to fix.

the hot gas like to cool , mid tube and clog.
if present.

if a quad jet, ouch.
seen them with 8 clogs, that is all quads packed, the egr packed the S path in the intake packed and the head tunnel packed and the exh, man packed, ALL ON ONE CAR.

I only did the diaphragm test. Will have to read about the second test.

Are you saying that the tube is probably blocked? Should I just take the sidewinder off of there and clean it?

ps. where do I get new gaskets? Make my own? Try to use the old ones?

I'm not sure if this is related or not to my egr issue, but if the engine is cold and I start it and give it full throttle it will go to 2k rpm and then bog. It will do this 2 or 3 times before it will rev above 2k rpm. Is this a secondary issues with the tps? Like a cold engine issue.

that is the new 1995, the sidewinder, no quad egr ports,

does it stall when you push the EGR main diaphragm.
does it stall with vacuum applied to the EGR main nipple?

It doesn't stall when pushing the diaphragm. The engine doesn't seem to do anything when pressed.

I need to try the vacuum test. Will need to locate the main nipple.

the exh path is blocked, see links here.
id do the least work, its a pain to do end to end, a lost week end, not worth it.
but we can find it so very easy with sidewinder
lets pretend its easy fail. do those first , then a bark test, at upto 3 bark tests max.

what id do is remove the top of side tube, sst sidewinder. remove sst tube center clamp first. ,
remove the pipe, and start engine and repeat the push diaphragm by hand test. does the tube bark?

no bark ? take off the tube totally dont lose the 2 sst gaskets, reused them for life time.

if it dont bark with the tube all off the valve is clogged.
its harder work now, , pen oil the threads and remove the 6mm screws gently buy rocking them. to not break the, 7ft'/lbs is all they can take.
remove the EGR main. i put a cork in the intake side of the eGR base. and start engine. does the other port bark,? yes/no.
if yes then the EGR main, is clogged, but id bet you already noticed that when removed.
