Timing belt tracking off center - lost track - 07-21-2014 my problem,s with a 96 Geo Tracker 5spd, 4x4, 4door no A/C Motor #G16T101544. I'v done the timing belt at around 80,000 mi. twice in the last 8 years. third times a charm right ? this time at 60,000. (now i know) this time off with the head, new Felpro gaskets, lapped valves, welded cracked exhaust. All back together compression 188 +/- 3lbs. Now the belt tracks about 1/3 off the front side of the pulleys. wont fall off just wants to stick out so the cover will rub. I'v got it off again, what could I be missing this time around ? one thing I forgot, it's got 269,000 miles on it, ran like a champ till the head gasket gave up ! RE: Timing belt tracking off center - fixkick - 07-21-2014 the head had guide pins, of missing the head cants and will never track a belt. bad belt. old belt used and put on , reversed. bottom cog wheel, center of it and crank snout no longer fit right, due to never setting the 94ft/lbs spec torque there oh boy tracker dont track, right... it's and omen. most simple fail is the index tab /tang on back of idler, not indexed and is now canted. http://www.fixkick.com/t-belt/drift.html good luck to you |
