4 vs 5 blade AC A/C condenser fan - Samistine - 07-14-2019 The suzuki sidekick shows a 4 blade condenser fan, while the geo tracker shows a 5 blade condenser fan. My motor is dead and in need of replacement, I ordered a 5 blade complete fan assembly with cage and received a 4 blade one instead. I decided to put the 5 blade fan on the newish motor and ended up killing it within a couple of days. Is the AC system the same other than the blades? If so, Why do the two cars have different fan blades? My engineering mind now thinks if I get another replacement, to stick with the four blade, even if I get a 5 blade motor, since I would reduce amp draw and maybe prolong motor life. I probably don’t need to much airflow, right now I have to watch the ECU engine temperature probe to manually turn off the ac when I notice temps moving above 210F RE: 4 vs 5 blade AC A/C condenser fan - fixkick - 07-15-2019 (07-14-2019, 03:46 AM)Samistine Wrote: The suzuki sidekick shows a 4 blade condenser fan, while the geo tracker shows a 5 blade condenser fan. what matters is 3 things, 12vdc fan and CFM , only, (and sure fits #3) blades be damned, you might consider that the CAMI plant used 4 different fans in the 10 year run 89-98 . (in any factory on earth we have list, of qualified vendors parts, and if not we go broke with down times lacking parts, to produce any car, also the practice of JIT, just in time manufacturing this is true in SPADES) you can use a generic fan too, its just 12 to 15vdc fan. what was killed, IDK? the car the ac or the FAN? (was fan used, new, NOS, or clones from china) IDK that. what matters is where you live, in Alaska is not Texas , so the fan most cool the CONDENSER for sure parked at red light on a 120F day like here. its just air flow not moving car that matters, most. (and desire for cab cool air) when moving you have plenty of air flow across the condenser, more than plenty most times, the fan runs from a simple relay, to the battery there is no magic PWM here, just pure raw battery voltage. DC. to the fan, (it's on or off) the AC AMP is also part of the logic, that allows the fan to spin. (on or off) CFM matters only, not blades ever. Cubic feet per minute air flow matters. (engineering terms) life of the fan depends only on , how many AC hot days you have,? or if using cold day, defrost mode with AC.? nothing else. (some now are 20 years and still work so the fan suzuki used, is not junk, at all) well if not fording streams and water wave hits fan or MUD/stones sure. ok good luck with fans. RE: 4 vs 5 blade AC A/C condenser fan - fixkick - 07-15-2019 also the blade count can change noise, and any maker my change that to quiet the noise. most 4wd runners dont' care with windows closed.? if do there are special curved blades that are very quiet. |
