RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - fixkick - 11-25-2014 the other test we could not do ?,was hazards as pin 18 would have sent power to the blinker relay too, but we could not do that. if it had worked, all this testing would have been moot. we'd know the switch was bad if pin 19 is 12vdc. do you see why having a working hazard switch, makes all testing much more easy? just some facts to consider. so we are at my last post. history 1 TO 6 ABOVE. the contacts are ok so does the bench ohms test fail? id bet not (HISTORY 5) and id bet you did the on car test wrong. (PIN 19 WAS NOT AT 12VDC) KEYON. those contacts are ok. they look perfect TO ME. so...... We are barking up wrong tree but the 2 acid tests are: 1: BENCH OHMS (skipped) if passes see next reason. 2: IN CAR. (done wrong.) WE BACKUP. RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - zukitrek - 11-25-2014 Thats is my guess. I did skip something or overlooked it. I will reassemble (just the combo) connect to car a do tests again. Rememnberf that I had to disassemble combo anyways since letting the hazard button out. Now I had a better look with your assistance. Hopefully everything looking Ok and tested at the combo side, should give me a clear picture. Switch again (signals) sorry no macro. [attachment=163] [attachment=164] I will be sending video where you will see where material is missing. Video link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW2MmYcRNj8&feature=youtu.be You see my finger tip thru the contact where the material is missing. Talk to you later. Off to work. Good day!! J RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - fixkick - 11-25-2014 Bingo, better photos, better answers can I assume that is slider, 3/19? you need to say this is xxx bla bla. that slided is bad, see how it wore 2 holes in the curved metal> so take some brass stock and solder it where those hole are. doing so and not melting the plastic takes SKILL. it can be fixed, done many. too many. its just brass, think how to repair brass.. answer solder. it cant be welded, or other methods , only soft solder low temp , solder and the correct flux.... the best view, is not straight on, its from corner so i can see 3D, like view. see the damage. but I see it, the contacts wore the slider out. simple . to solder this use only 3 seconds heat at time, and use bottle with water spray, to spray it and cool it if you panic. You get one shot to fix it. if the plastic melts its a goner RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - zukitrek - 11-25-2014 Ive been mentioning this since the beginning (actually since I disassembled combo first time), but somehow I did not make self clear or you could not understand me. But yes, the contact area looks shaved, wore down. I will repair tonight and hopefully be ready tomorrow. No, that slide is green/yellow/green solid/green red. This is 3/19 http://www.fixkick.com/bbs2/Suzuki-bbs/attachment.php?aid=158 Many many thanks!! RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - fixkick - 11-25-2014 its ok, im not worried about, hazard just the 1st step , when pull test, was skipped, if the first step passed, id not need to see any photos. but that is moot now, its bad. hard failure. proven 3 ways, on car, bench test (skipped) and looking inside (fails) the are only 2 solution.s buy one fix yours, that contact can be fixed, RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - zukitrek - 11-26-2014 Yes it will be fixed. I only have access to soft tin solder. That should do it? RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - fixkick - 11-26-2014 yes, the brass is fixed to plastic, if you can remove the brass from the plastic (ive no idea) (not breaking it) Then its 10x more easy, the low temp solder is best, even radio shack sells it. in tiny cheap amounts. this has spring under all this, so the contacts are not the spring, they are just contacts, so solder it or fit tiny brass squares there, and solder them in. making them near new. ive done this many times but on classic cars, some have no spare parts to buy, so i must do the repairs this way. just take your time and rebuild those lips. and it will work. RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - zukitrek - 11-26-2014 Yes contacts all come out. Those you see in pics have been already removed form the plastic housing and cleaned. Will do so tonight. I can send you more pictures if want for your page? Thnx!! RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - fixkick - 11-26-2014 im so glad that is true. now you can work over the contacts and not overheat plastic !! you are lucky, ! ill make a slide show if this, it only takes 10min. others might like to see how to save $230 and thanks for sharing. RE: Turn signals out after smoke in combo switch - zukitrek - 11-26-2014 Anytime sir! All thanks to you. J |
