RE: Late shifting 4sp Sidekick 94 16V engine - fixkick - 08-27-2014 well it needs to work cold and hot, its a hard failure. the tests will all fail cold. the stall (after all it dont move so the stall will fail dead hard) and i bet the line tests fail. cold im not sure why but finding it will be hard in the car. and it will get worse, there are like zero symptoms, on trans that get better in time.. my wild guess is booster is not working right cold, the spring is calibrated to 95hp. and your cars weight. Where is that booster you mention? Is not the brake booster right? RE: Late shifting 4sp Sidekick 94 16V engine - fixkick - 08-27-2014 why not change the filter, like in post 5 asks. why? why skip that, and then start reviewing all the internal parts and seals of this complex box. you asked how to change the pump. will you going to do 8 yours labor to do that , only to find out its not the pump>? RE: Late shifting 4sp Sidekick 94 16V engine - fixkick - 08-27-2014 change the filter now..... it is probably way over 100k miles and not one time serviced. ever. think maybe its now time for a filter. 44 posts deep and no filter yet http://www.fixkick.com/IGN_timing/tune-ups.html#Quasi_flush my guess is lucus, snake oil will next job.... 7b1 chapter covers the whole tranny. here. http://www.acksfaq.com/pdfs/FSMsq416_1of2.pdf RE: Late shifting 4sp Sidekick 94 16V engine - zukitrek - 08-27-2014 Wow sir you really do good research! I think this might work. There was other local mechanic that suggested that seals could be the problem and I forgot about it. So any conditioners should work? What about the tranny flush, should I go ahead and do it apart from this problem? A good work flow would be getting the repair kit, repair and then replace screen while I'm there? Thanks very very much!! Regards!! Here the complete parts catalog for the 03-72LE https://www.automaticchoice.com/uploads/producten/pdfs/Catalogue/aw_0370.pdf I will check this out just for reference. RE: Late shifting 4sp Sidekick 94 16V engine - fixkick - 08-28-2014 post 46 and still no filter. sure seals are bad, ever seen 20 years old seals in ANYTHING, sure they are all bad. what's new here. so you replace all seals, 10 hrs labor and it still fails... what then??? lots of ways to fail the stall test lost of ways for the line pressure test to fail, buy a a/t book repairs and read that????? Barnes and noble sells 5, http://www.fixkick.com/IGN_timing/tune-ups.html#Quasi_flush change the filter first then......... do the stall test. if stall fails do the LINE TEST. http://www.fixkick.com/slush-pump.html#4speed_fast see the stall speeds and the line pressures here, and a new link to the full suzuki, fsm too. page 7B1-p21- 54 excerpt G16, 4speed, line pressure, is: D-idle=55-63psi., D-stall=166-188psi, R-idle= 73-81psi, and r-stall=202-237 Stall data: Drive or Reverse. (wide open throttle , is the test) too low is weak engine, too high is a bad slipping transmission. 2,100 RE: Late shifting 4sp Sidekick 94 16V engine - zukitrek - 08-28-2014 For sure cold will fail. But once it runs and I try the stall test again, will it fail too? RE: Late shifting 4sp Sidekick 94 16V engine - fixkick - 08-28-2014 if it runs be happy but 20 year old trans that slip (stall fails) will get worse, for sure. and we learn later it did, shifts late (check TV cable and both ends work, and valve) for late shifting and post 48 and still no new filter. why? RE: Late shifting 4sp Sidekick 94 16V engine - zukitrek - 08-28-2014 OK, cold stall test will fail and lets say (almost for sure) low line pressure numbers also fail, then bad tranny then what needs to be corrected? I mean bad tranny sounds big$$? Will these results then shine some light on the actual faulty part/component? I will try them tonight the tests. PS: I deleted the post about the wrong part number, since is not relevant to the thread. BTW can we change the thread name so we don't mislead people when doing a search? Maybe to Tranny not running when cold with D selected? Let me know. RE: Late shifting 4sp Sidekick 94 16V engine - fixkick - 08-28-2014 there is no such thing as a cheap A/T bought new day one, or any time it fails. it's a thing to consider when buying any car, why have one at all... $1500 exchanged, you install. and post 50 and still the filter has yet to be changed. |
