RE: Idle issue on an 89 sidekick 8v - Freaky Beanie - 04-12-2019 Currently, All TB Gaskets are stock/original. I'm also going to assume a blocked IAC would have the same effect as my putty. If I cannot fix it, I want to have a modified replacement. (you can get universal IAC units). My wife will be driving this sidekick and I want/need it to be simple for her. RE: Idle issue on an 89 sidekick 8v - Freaky Beanie - 04-12-2019 Before taking it off, I will try to turn the ring inside the IAC as you mentioned. Just to see if it helps. Thanks again. How did you learn all of this? Just curious. (04-12-2019, 07:54 AM)fixkick Wrote: your IAC is bad, time to test in in a pan of wot water. RE: Idle issue on an 89 sidekick 8v - fixkick - 04-12-2019 why wreck the calibration , first. first prove what is wrong, then hack it. these TB are rare so needs extra care to now what is wrong. the thermostat needs to be at 180first the water flow true the IAC body must not be restricted in any way. if all that is ok, the IAC is bad, hack away. I'd have in in hot water, 150f and see if it closes, if it is only a bit off, turn the ring inward so it just hits the piston and no further, the test at 150f again, and repeat until it is right. that is how to calibrate it, if you want to know.. guessing will mess up the calibration and the ECU will not like that, it knows the actions of the IAC and injects fuel based on a model of those actions. (cold) cold to 150f and then its offline. the IAC. hope that helps..... good luck RE: Idle issue on an 89 sidekick 8v - Freaky Beanie - 04-12-2019 I'm thinking that taking the TB apart will damage my gaskets. (maybe I'm wrong) I have no gaskets and since I live in Canada, everything is slower/harder to get. I may have found an 89 locally. I should be able to get some parts. I will start by looking at the thermostat and test temperatures. (04-12-2019, 09:15 AM)fixkick Wrote: why wreck the calibration , first. I monitored the temps and the thermostat is functioning correctly. (04-12-2019, 09:15 AM)fixkick Wrote: why wreck the calibration , first. RE: Idle issue on an 89 sidekick 8v - fixkick - 04-13-2019 the FLIR shows all is good, heat wise. nice way to test this. FLIR. if the IAC is roasting hot like the FLIR shows, the IAC is bad if it leaks air, so adjusting it is ok, (nothing to loose only gain) and thanks very much for sharing FLIR here, It is shame the IAC can not be removed like the 16valve has. good luck to you!~ RE: Idle issue on an 89 sidekick 8v - fixkick - 04-13-2019 one can make a paper gasket in 15 min. work with raw paper gasket material sold at NAPA and an exacto knife. easy! just cut it like my SMP, new gasket photos show. the only hard part is breaching the fuel line and losing copper washers there, on the rear,, gaskets are so simple here. even CARB like simple. |
