RE: 92 vss code 24 - fixkick - 03-31-2017 when the front needle bearing goes bad (gross loose) that allows the mag cup to hit the spinning drive magnet , when that happens the needle slams to max speed at near mAch 1 (lol), and bam , destroyed, all do this about not, or just before this, see them do it at 150k short miles.... sadly the needed is mag drive, (nothing touches drive) the spring calibrates this mag, balanced actions. finding heads in 2017 is super heard, (working ones) try car-parts.com (wreckers net) use the dash there. RE: 92 vss code 24 - fixkick - 03-31-2017 first noise then jerking (if not the cable bad) then slamming then destruction all do that, driven far. RE: 92 vss code 24 - fetcher - 03-31-2017 Looks like http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/speedo/Speedo_guts/html/image_2.html shows different locations to put the screws. RE: 92 vss code 24 - fixkick - 03-31-2017 good news... geo not listed now, its called chevy tracker here, or use sidekick shows over 5 pages, of heads, matching one is hard. (year 92/93, 2doors,4wd, 5sped, 8v, ) the 2wd has no tacho , (confusion on this) http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi RE: 92 vss code 24 - fetcher - 04-01-2017 Now I am worried about the used speedometer head I am using. I think I need to source a new needle bushing. RE: 92 vss code 24 - GFO4501 - 04-01-2017 Thanks to everyone who responded. I will try to post some pictures later. I assume the screws in the back connect with terminals from the reed switch. There is nothing for the screws to go into. Does anyone have a picture of the back of the face assembly with the speedometer gears in place? I thought I could possibly put another reed switch in with terminal connections if I knew where everything goes. Thanks again! Greg RE: 92 vss code 24 - fetcher - 04-01-2017 I only have a broken one from a 1996. I just took a look at it and like clockwork, the mileage shows 150,101. RE: 92 vss code 24 - GFO4501 - 04-01-2017 OK guys, I got some pictures if I can figure out how to attach them. I will post them separate cause I'm not sure about file sizes.(not very good on computer stuff) Maybe this will help identify the problem. Greg RE: 92 vss code 24 - fixkick - 04-01-2017 the bottom side if head, has a sticker and p/n what is yours, maybe someone put that 89 head that had no vss, as seen frame 17 ;last link. frame 18 is tag p/n example lots of photo's here, and many V1/v2 marks on the back I added. the 89. first head , v1 is signal and v2 is at ground and no wires. the odd duck one head has no vss unless cruise ordered. do you have the wrong head there? (tag numbers?) see the VSS path on many heads, (sadly no 92) http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/speedo/unsafe-at-any-speed.html see this slide show linked off the above. http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/speedo/slideshow-just-cluster-backs/html/index.html |
