So with my latest adventure firmly behind me, ( http://www.fixkick.com/bbs2/Suzuki-bbs/s...hp?tid=330)
I've run into a new electrical intermittent problem (my favourite kind).
Car is throwing error code 45, and randomly losing power/not responding to the gas pedal. I can floor it, and it will do nothing, and then suddenly roar. Other times it will just drive normally.
It was doing this a while ago, although not quite as frequently, and so I swapped out a used TPS from my '96 4-door automatic (250,000km), and that seemed to make it happy for a while. I will confess that I made an educated guess to it's position and did not follow the calibration procedure, as I could not get my hand inside with a feeler gauge (how does anyone get their hand in there?!). However, it did work for a few months, until last night the same symptoms came back with a vengeance.
I do have a third TPS sensor, but the chances of two of them being bad seems unlikely. I know you said in your procedure that it can be done on the car, but I can't see how you did it unless you removed stuff. I would rather not pull off the throttle assembly if I didn't have to.
Incidentally, I'm also getting error code 23 right now as well. I'm going to try and have a closer look at my wiring harness, but any other suggestions for either of these codes?

45 is grounded all the time, means TPS is signalling idle all the time. (the index pins inside can be misindexed. after someone took the TPS off and put it back not aligning the index pins per fsm.. see fsm words in the page.
it will cause up to 8 problems, if not right.
tip-in bog (or the ISC fights your right foot, very odd effects all can be very unsafe to drive. ) on new cars they drop to Limphome, mode, at drop of a hat, for TBW, throttle by wire..
EGR failure at stop signs.
idle controls dead.
timing freeze jumper dead.
revised page, added 3 photos to.
16v TPS Cal.

Well, I managed to get in there, using this:
It ain't pretty, but it did the job. Cleared the error codes, and after one trip to town and back (40km) no problems so far...

symptoms are back. I'm going to see if I find a fault in the wiring harness. Seems like it's cutting in and out of idle...

id leave the diag jumper in all week,to see if the light falters at any time.12,,12,, even partial flashes are bad.
a scan tool might help (to see what is dropping out)

I have been driving with a jumper. When the symptoms came back so did the 45 error code. I tried unplugging the tps, and put a jumper between the idle switch wires (the bottom 2). Then I connected my DMM at the ECM and wiggled the harness at different points to see if I could recreate an open, but no luck so far. I was thinking of even running new wires to the ECM, but that would be my last resort. Sure could use a data-logging handheld scope about now...

replaced the top section of the wiring harness from TPS to plug at the front of the engine after the injectors. Symptoms are still present.
Do you know specifically what error code 45 means on a 1995 2-door 16V automatic? Does it mean that one of the ECM pins (A14 or A23) is grounded?

1996-16v engine, with MAF.
45s never lie.
what it means is , the ECU sees you driving fast and under load, (the maf is sucking tons of air (and RPM high) but why is the IDLE switch stuck closed at 0v?) its asking that.
so it is, (or late to OPEN)
1: lost 5vdc to pin 4 of TPS, gray-red
2: TPS is not indexed, (its inside tabs not set in propery to throttle shaft as FSM shows, )
3: TPS adjusted so that the switch stays closed too long, this is why they have 3 feeler gauges to make sure this can not happen.
i dont think a TPS can fail , in such a way as to ground its out put all times. no way.. (its insides would have to be mangled)
pin 2 is ECU ground at TPS
and pin 3 is idle switch, 0v is idle and 5v is not idle. i think the thresholds for this logic (ECU) is about 1v. but that dont matter. the switch must go to infinity, at the correct point. or 45s hit
this will cause many driving issues, many things rely on this switch to work.
i test the TPS off car, carefully for glitching at any throttle angle, TP pin then test the switch for good, and then calibrate it with TB off car.

Looks like the problem is gone. I thought I felt it kick into idle, but since that first test drive after I replace the top part of the wiring harness, no codes have come up, and no symptoms have come back. I'm going to call this one solved.
